Town of Rocky presents awards to winners of lighting contest

Curtis Weatherly and Anabelle were the First Prize winners of the Rocky Christmas Lighting Contest. When they were asked why they decorated their home so beautifully, Curtis replied: “Don’t give me the credit for the lights-it was all Annabelle.”

Annabelle chimed in, “We both worked a lot of hours. The glow of Christmas lights fills me with an almost childhood excitement. Seeing the decorative and beautiful Christmas lights give me a warm rush of joy that feels both magical and nostalgic. Each twinkle and hue seem to dance with a promise that can transform even the simplest street into an enchanting wonderland. There is something heartwarming about how these tiny bursts of light can connect strangers drawing smiles and sparking conversations. The soft illumination is feels like hope made visible with a reminder of warmth and togetherness in the midst of winter’s chill. For me, Christmas lights aren’t just decorations-they’re a celebration of wonder, possibility, and joy.”

Jeremy Boyd and Valerie, the Second Prize Winners, remarked: “We love Christmas, plus we enjoy doing things together. And, we take pleasure and get a kick out of putting Christmas lights on our home for our family, neighbors and friends to enjoy. Winning Second Place in the Rocky Christmas Lighting Contest made us enjoy Christmas even more.”

The Honorable Mention Prize Winner, David Jones had this to say: “It seemed like Curtis and Annabelle were putting up more and more Christmas lights every day. But, as hard as I tried, I couldn’t keep up with them. However, after Christmas was over, I went and bought out Walmart for next Christmas.

Pete and DeDe Mattingly of Sentinel were the judges. When asked about how they judged the Rocky Christmas Lighting Contest winners, they asserted, “We did not know who lived where, as we had just recently moved to Sentinel. But the delightful and beautiful decorations the people of Rocky put on their homes reflected how much they loved Christmas and how much they wanted others to enjoy Christmas too.”
