Three Cordell football players were named to the all-district first team by the district’s football coaches last week.

Sophomore Dane Corbin was recognized as the district Most Valuable Player on special teams, junior Raydon Kuehne was named as the first-team cornerback, and senior Alex Grissom made the first-team receiver group.

Cordell head coach Zane Trammell spoke highly of the trio of players.

“Grissom was able to take the top off the defense for us a few times,” said Trammell. “He made a few deep catches and touchdowns throughout the season. Defenses had to respect his speed.”

“Corbin is one of the best athletes on the field every Friday night,” he said. “We moved him around a lot on offense trying to get the ball in his hands. He returned a couple of kickoff returns for touchdowns this year and was voted as special teams MVP for our district.

“Kuehne was banged up for the last half of the season, with a broken wrist, and still picked off a really talented quarterback from Mangum. He had a couple of interceptions with multiple pass breakups. He was always in the right position and is a great open-field tackler.”

In addition to the three first-team honorees, the Blue Devils had a number of second team and honorable mention athletes on the all-district roster.

“We had a handful of kids earn second team honors: Ryan Pyeatte (OL) Parker Johnson (WR), Louis Lloyd (FB), Sam Espinosa (DT), Adden Zanghi (MLB), and Bode Gallagher (OLB),” Trammell said. “Each young man made plays for our team throughout the season and was very deserving of the honor. Gavin Jasmer (DE) and Cameron Cochran (OL) were chosen as honorable mention players. Both young men greatly improved week by week. Carsen Nickel and Cade Walker made the injured reserve all-district team, which is an honor for players that were injured but would have made an impact on the field if healthy.”
