Southwestern Oklahoma State University social fraternity Phi Delta Theta is helping with a national effort to help families dealing with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Hagan Holsapple of SWOSU’s Phi Delta Theta chapter in Weatherford said the frat brothers are trained and ready to support an ALS Family in western Oklahoma.

The program, called ‘Adopt & Serve an ALS Family,’ matches undergraduate brothers with ALS families for arms-andlegs support (yard clean up, garage clean out, Christmas Light hanging, camaraderie with ALS patients or their children, for example.

Holsapple said the volunteers perform this support completely freeof-charge and free-of commitment. They do not raise funds for families, provide transportation or medical support. In addition, they will never solicit funds from the families they serve.

“Instead, we are hoping to build a deeper connection for our volunteers to our national cause of ALS, the disease which took our fraternity brother. Lou Gehrig,” Holsapple said.

Interested ALS families should complete the ‘Request for Volunteer Service Questionnaire’ found at www.LiveLikeLou.org/impact.
