A new pizza restaurant is on the horizon for Cordell.

Alyssa Wedel, who along with her husband Jared own the new business, said late last week, “We are still hoping to open by the end of September. But no date has been set,” she added.

Name of the new restaurant is “Slice 183.”

Alyssa said, “We went through so many names trying to find one that hadn’t been taken. It was a struggle,” she related.

“Today, they applied the final coat of epoxy on the floor. They’ll go in and hang the fixtures tomorrow (last Friday) and hopefully be through,” she said on remodeling of the building located at 226 E. Main.

She was planning to meet with the food distributor sometime early this week.

Turning to what the restaurant will offer, she explained, “We are focusing on brick oven pizza and a salad bar. We’ll have some appetizers and desserts,” she assures people.

She said, “We will have some special ones but we are still tweaking those.”

When they do open, Alyssa says the business will be doing lunch Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and they will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. They will be closed Sunday and Monday.

“If I can get enough help, we’ll expand dinner to Tuesday and Wednesday,” she noted.

Alyssa said she and her husband grew up in Cordell and both graduated from Cordell High School. “He was a year ahead of me,” she said.

They both attended Oklahoma State University and Alyssa said during college, “I worked at the original Hideaway Pizza restaurant in Stillwater. I really loved the people and atmosphere and the pizza.”

She and Jared married while in college and when they left OSU they returned to Cordell. “We just wanted some good pizza out here and the atmosphere,” she commented.

Alyssa will be the manager of Slice 183, adding, “I don’t plan on him having to do very much.”

She mentioned that Jared and his family run a farming operation. “They are gearing up to plant wheat and they have a large cattle operation as well,” she stressed.

She and her husband have three children, two sons and a daughter. Canyon is the oldest and he’s 4, Braylee, which was Alyssa’s mother’s maiden name, is 2 and Brixton is 1.

She and Jared purchased the building last November that the restaurant is in and she pointed out, “It’s 100 years old this year.”

“The building has the original bread oven which takes up an entire wall,” Alyssa stated. “As soon as we walked in and saw the bread oven, I wanted the building.”

Remodeling began in April. “It’s taken since then to get everything in place.”

She said she is starting to hire workers this week.
