For four consecutive years the School Supply Project has raised enough money to provide all of the school supplies for every student at Cordell Elementary. The 2019-2020 school year was no exception, as donors and volunteers stocked elementary school classrooms with pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, crayons, glue sticks, and everything else the Pre-K through sixth grade students need for a successful academic year.

The members of the project work throughout the year to raise funds, and have already started the ball rolling for their fifth year, the 2020-2021 school year. The fundraising drive will kick off Friday, Sept. 20, before Cordell’s home football game against Thomas. The project, a group within the Cordell Academic Foundation, will host an Indian taco dinner at the Washita County Activity Center from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The meal will cost $10 per plate, with the proceeds going to benefit the School Supply Project.

Project member Brooke Dodd said the group works all year long to help raise the money, as the cost of supplies increases with each passing year. The group’s long-term goal, she said, would be to expand the project into the junior high and high schools.
