On the week of May 4 in 2011, Mike Hileman took over as the new United Supermarket Manager, succeeding Bobby Richardson.
It was announced that Wynter Probert, the five year old daughter of Chris and Sarah Probert, won a national ski race in her age division. Wynter’s relatives in the surrounding areas are, Erick and Brenda Price of Burns Flat, Noma Mae Price of Foss, Amie Price and Keith and Erin Schneberger of Burns Flat.
The 2011 Cordell High School Baseball team was named district champions for the 14th consecutive year. The team was coached by Bobby Blackburn and Assistant Coach Dillon Ball.
The 2011 Cordell Comets U12 Girls soccer team won the Great Plains Soccer Association’s District Tournament for the second time, and finished their season with a perfect 12-0 Record. The team scored a total of 64 goals in the season, and only allowed three. The team, coached by Jim Price and Rob Kuehne, consisted of Aubreigh Cary, Berkley Price, Madison Johnson, Brittany Dudgeon, Kayela Staples, Crimson Zanghi, Kaitlyn Kuehne, Kristi Gray, Tori Gray, Arin Glennie, Emma Russ, and Hallie Sewell.

On the week of May 9 in 2001, The Washita Theatre took first place at the Main Street Awards Banquet. Nancy and Robert Koehn also won first place for having the best building facade under $10,000. It was announced that the theatre building would receive a certificate of merit at the upcoming Statewide Preservation Conference Award Banquet for “outstanding accomplishments.” The city of Cordell approved tentative
The city of Cordell approved tentative plans for an RV Park in a lengthy meeting on May 7.
Mayor Phil Kliewer signed a “Tourism Week” proclamation, encouraging residents to participate in national tourism week May 7 through 11. The event was designed to highlight the beginning of the summer travel season, and the importance of tourism to small town economies.
The 2001 Cordell High School Golf Team was named Regional Champions.
Jerry Stewart and Susy Sewell announced their engagement and approaching marriage.
The 2001 Cordell High School baseball team finished up their successful 28-10 season with a regional tournament game against Mangum. The team was coached by Bobby Blackburn.
According to the Farmers Cooperative Association of Bessie the price of wheat was $2.86.
30 YEARS AGO
On June 11, 1991 the Alco department store opened in Cordell at 1415 North Glenn English. The store celebrated a successful grand opening week by giving a free houseplant to the first 100 customers and offering games and door prizes.
Stephanie Gunning of Cordell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gunning, travelled to Tulsa to compete in the Miss Oklahoma pageant. She qualified for the pageant by becoming Miss Sayre. She previosly competed as Miss Carnegie.
Cordell Superintendent of Schools Jerry Burrows advocated for the passage of House Bill 1017, which , among other things, called for teacher salary raises and and a new elementary library.
On May 26, 1991 the dedication ceremony was held for the Rocky Historical Monument. Rocky Mayor Howard Humphrey led the ceremony and Dortha Bass and Venoy Foust were recognized for the hard work they did to make the monument possible.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Swart celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary while visiting family in Visalia, California. Mrs. Swart’s 91 year old father was among those who honored them with a luncheon and a reception.
