September has flown by and October will be here Thursday. Hopefully our +90 degree days are in the past. Fall started September 22 and that means our days are getting shorter, the nights are longer and temperatures are cooling down.
October 1st will be a full moon- the Hunters Moon. Traditionally, during October those of us in the Northern Hemisphere spent the month preparing for winter by gathering crops, hunting, slaughtering and preserving meats for use as food. Thus to October’s Full Moon is often called the Hunter’s Moon, Dying Grass Moon or sometimes the Blood Moon.
With the Full moon falling on the first and October having 31 days, this year we have two Full moons in October. The second Full moon of any month is called the Blue moon. This yea’s October Blue moon also falls on Halloween. This happens every 19 years, so the next Blue Moon on Halloween won’t occur until 2039.
