A felony arrest warrant has been issued for Theresa Danelle Nixon, a former employee of Equity Bank in Cordell. Nixon, who recently relocated to Arkansas, was charged with two felony counts of embezzling funds from bank customers.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, three representatives from the bank met with Cordell Police Chief Brandon Rogers on June 15. They reported to Rogers that Nixon had stolen approximately $35,000 from the bank and that an internal audit was ongoing. They told Rogers that Nixon was supposed to be coming into the bank later that morning to return the stolen money.

When Nixon arrived at the bank, Rogers escorted her to the Washita County Justice Center for questioning. During the interview, Nixon reportedly admitted to the theft, although she claimed to not know exactly how much money she had taken. According to Rogers, Nixon also claimed that a combination of marital and health issues had caused her hormones to be “out of wack” and that she was sorry. Nixon provided

Rogers with a written statement about the incidents and was released at that time.

When Rogers returned to the bank to report Nixon’s confession, he was informed that bank officials had found $7,200 in Nixon’s desk drawer and she had brought in $5,500. Four days later, the bank’s audit and confirmed a total of $35,500 had been stolen.

Nixon surrendered to authorities Aug. 3. If convicted she faces up to 16 years in the state prison, eight for each count, and a fine of up to $20,000, plus restitution.
