Washita County Health Clinic Opens Its Doors Today

The dream becomes a reality today. After much anticipation the Washita County Health Department will open its doors today.

The one day a week clinic, which was made possible by the hard work of many interested parties, will be open every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 1121 N. Market, directly behind the Cordell Memorial Hospital. The health department will actually be an arm of the hospital, with a registered nurse and clerk from the hospital staff manning the free clinic on Wednesdays.

Drug Policy, Gas Card System Discused By Cordell Council

During Monday night’s Cordell City Council meeting, members discussed various issues, but only voted on one.

The one agenda item receiving action was the appointment of Janeice Reid, a city office employee, to the position of Deputy City Clerk.

Council members voted unanimously to place Reid in the back-up role after Jean Smith, the city clerk who is out of the office due to illness, recommended her.

Fourteen File For Public Office In Cordell

As of press time, 14 individuals had filed for one of six Cordell city positions that will be filled in the April 4th general election.

The Washita County Election Board will be open February 8th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for people interested in running for mayor, police chief, city clerk and city council.

Other Washita County communities are also planning elections.

Cordell Vocal Department Selling Singing Valentine Grams

The Cordell Vocal Department is once again selling Singing Valentine Grams. The cost is $5.00 and this includes balloon, card and three sweet songs. Send one to your sweetheart, spouse, parent, grandparent, etc.

Work Is Scheduled To Start Soon On Highway Projects Work orders have been

Work orders have been issued on two projects on highway SH 152 west of Cordell and work is scheduled to being on or about February 9.

Information was released by Cooper West of Elk City, state highway commissioner, and issued by Don Greenhaw, state representative and Byron Dacus state senator.

Projects involved are SAP - 75(16) Roadway, a state aid project located on SH 152 in Washita county, beginning at the Junction of US 183 southwest of Cordell, extending west, and consists of 5.047 miles of grading, drainage and asphalt concrete on biluminous base fine aggregate.

Canute Man Is Commissioned By ROTC Unit Michael E. Whittenberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Montie L. Whittenberg, route 2, Canute, was among 59 men at the University of Oklahoma receiving commissions in the army, navy and air force Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28, during commissioning exercises for reserve officer training corps (ROTC) cadets and midshipmen.

Whittenberg, a distinguished military graduate, received a commission as second lieutenant in the United States army.

Vaccine Is Given To 710 Children In Rubella Clinic

The “Rub Out Rubella” clinic for Washita county conducted in Cordell last Sunday afternoon was a big success, says its sponsors, the Washita County Medical Society and Cordell civil clubs. A total of 710 children from ages one to 11 received the vaccine. They represented all parts of the county, they reported.

Conducting the clinic were four Cordell doctors, Dr. Jim Couch, president of the Washita County Medical Society, Dr. Roy Anderson, Dr. Tisdal Jones, and Dr. L.G. Livingston, and their nurses and office staff members.
