Washita County Sheriff Roger Reeve has announced he will be asking the voters of the county for another four years at the helm of the county’s largest law enforcement agency. Reeve was first elected in 2012 and has served with the sheriff’s department for about 25 years. He said the biggest

He said the biggest challenge facing the department in the coming years revolves around finance. Four years ago he had seven full-time deputies in the department, but budget cuts in recent years have reducted that number to four. The shrinking budget also makes it more difficult to purchase and maintain the department’s vehicles and other equipment.

The top priority for the immediate future, he said, is to continue to improve his department’s training regimen. He has been working to put together a special response team made up of deputies from his department as well as officers from the Cordell and Burns Flat police departments. The extra training, he said, not only benefits the communities of Washita County, but also helps to provide additional safety for the officers involved.

“I want to spend the next four years serving the people of Washita County, like I have been for the last 25 years,” he said. “I feel I have the experience to do the job and want to serve for another four years.”

The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020. The candidate filing period begins at 8:00 a.m. April 8, 2020, and closes at 5:00 p.m. April 10, 2020.
