An 18-year-old Dill City man could be spending the next 22 years behind bars after an argument with his father about a Playstation took a turn for the worse. Ricky Darrel Jackson, Jr., was arrested Feb. 8, 2020, and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Washita County Sheriff’s Deputy Kelby Peoples, he was dispatched to the Jackson residence after Ricky Jackson, Jr.’s father called to report a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Peoples was informed that the suspect had grabbed a meat cleaver and threatened his father with it for taking away his Playstation. The father, Ricky Jackson, Sr., according to the report, was in poor health and unable to defend himself. The suspect’s brother managed to take the cleaver away from Jackson, Jr. while Jackson, Sr. retreated into his bedroom and locked the door.

At that time, Jackson, Jr. reportedly turned his attention to his brother, taking out a pocket knife and attempting to stab him in the abdomen. The brother blocked the attempt, while calling for help from his father. Jackson, Sr. then returned from the locked bedroom with a single shot shotgun. The brother managed to retreat out of the house and hold the back door shut to prevent Jackson, Jr. from following him.

The suspect then reportedly fled the house, headed west. Peoples asked the three witnesses present, Jackson, Sr., Amber Jackson, and Kevin Jackson (the brother) to fill out and sign statements and went out to look for Jackson, Jr..

Shortly thereafter, Jackson, Jr. returned to the residence. He gave his pocket knife to his grandmother and reportedly admitted to having stolen a neighbor’s car, which was parked outside. Peoples then cuffed Jackson, Jr. and collected the witness statements.

According to the affidavit, after being advised of his Miranda rights, Jackson, Jr. admitted to Deputy Maxey, who had arrived on the scene during the search, that he intended to get his Playstation back “by any means necessary,” and that he was prepared to kill everyone in the house and then go to his aunt’s house and kill her because she would come by to check on the family. He also reportedly stated his intention to kill his grandmother because she would come over at some point as well.

He reportedly admitted that he wanted to kill everyone so he could get his Playstation back and play for a couple of days instead of a few hours. He then said, reportedly, that after a few days he would take all of the pills in the house and see what happened. He also reportedly told the deputies that he had no feelings.

If convicted, Jackson, Jr., could be sentenced to up to 10 years on each of the assault and batter with a deadly weapon charges and up to two years on the unauthorized use of a vehicle charge. He is currently being held in the Washita County Justice Center.
