Covid cases continue to rise in Cordell, Washita County and state

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports that Washita County’s number of positive COVID-19 cases has continued to climb through the past week.

The total number testing positive in the county is now 334. It was 274 a week ago, an increase of 60 over last week. Two weeks ago the number was 220 and three weeks ago it was 195.

On Aug. 21, the number of people testing positive in Washita County stood at 37.

Of the 334 positive cases, 232 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Cordell has reported 110 positive cases, the most in the county. Of those, 64 have recovered. Last week there were 79 positive cases. Of those, 49 had recovered.

Burns Flat, which had, 45 a week ago, now has 47, the third highest number in the county. Of those, 40 have recovered, OSDH said.

Burns Flat also has one of the reported deaths in the county.

Canute has 50, up from the 39 last week and has replaced Burns Flat with the second highest number in the county. Sentinel has 29. Of the 50 in Canute, 32 have recovered and 18 have recovered in Sentinel.

Other communities in Washita County reporting positive cases and the number recovered include: Dill City 13 and 13; Rocky 17 and 14.

Statewide as of Monday, 177,974 have tested positive, there have been 1,649 deaths and 142,381who have recovered. Active cases stood at 33,844 the OSDH said.

Last week there were 158,408 testing positive, there had been 1,544 deaths and 128,057 had recovered. There were 28,807 active cases a week ago.

This week on Monday, the OSDH reported more than 3,544 new positive cases confirmed and 15 additional deaths.

The OSDH reports more than 1,780,000 have tested negative.
