Cordell Students Return To The Classrooms

Cordell’s students returned to their classrooms Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019.

The starting enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year was down slightly from the year-end numbers of the previous year, with a total of 670 students enrolled for this year as compared with the 673 who ended the last school year enrolled in Cordell Public Schools.

“Our enrollment numbers have been declining over the past few years, I am glad to see the numbers hold steady for now,” said Cordell Public Schools superintendent Brad Overton.

According to data provided by Overton, both the elementary and junior high school enrollments are down slightly, with most of that ground being made up in high school enrollment, including 13 students in the new blended learning program.

In total, 407 students are enrolled at Cordell Elementary, down just three from the end-ofyear number. The junior high school dropped 12 students, down to 133 as school begins as compared to 145 at the end of last year. Cordell High School is up 12 students, starting the year at 130 after ending last year at 118.

“We are off to a great start for the school year,” Overton said. “The Cordell faculty and staff have worked hard on preparing for the new school year, I appreciate all of their hard work.”
