The state’s distribution of the COVID-19 vaccination remains fairly fluid, but teachers and staff at Cordell Public schools are waiting their turn.

Fifty-six employees of the district have indicated they would like to receive the vaccine, Superintendent Brad Overton said.

The vaccines should become available to the district soon, possibly this week or next, Overton said. The will not be mandatory, he added.

“We haven’t been told much,” Overton said. “Teachers are encouraged to register at vaccinate.oklahoma.gov, this portal lets people register and then they will receive an email letting them know when and where they can register for the vaccine. Anyone can utilize the vaccinate Oklahoma portal.”

The school district doesn’t have a set distribution plan, Overton said.

“The Health Department in guiding us through the process even though we don’t know much yet,” he said.

It’s too soon to tell whether vaccines will change things significantly this year, like the need for remote this year.

“We haven’t been given any guidance on this either,” Overtone said. “I am hoping that the State Health Department provides some guidance soon.”

Overton has some advice for the community about the vaccines.

“I would encourage the community to stay informed about the vaccine, the State Department of Health website has information about where to get the vaccine,” he said.
