Cordell Sales Tax Revenue Trending Upwards

Cordell collected almost $75,000 more in sales tax during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019, than it did during the previous fiscal year. Data from the Oklahoma Tax Commission shows sales tax revenues in Cordell were higher than the previous year in every month. In total, Cordell collected $769,999.30 in sales tax revenue during the fiscal year, up $74,149.04 from the previous year’s collections of $695,850.26.

June was the slowest month for sales tax growth, jumping just $344.66 from the previous year’s pace. March was Cordell’s biggest growth month, with a spike in collections of $15,020.83, going to $69,853.30 in 2019 from $54,832.27 in the previous year.

Cordell’s sales tax revenue was more than $100,000 above the estimated amount for the 2018/2019 budget. The budget called for $660,000 in salex tax revenue, while $769,999.30 was collected. The budget for the new fiscal year, beginning July 1, 2019, estimated a total of $700,000 in sales tax revenue, well below 2018/2019 collections and slightly higher than 2017/2018 revenues.

“I’m glad to see the sales tax revenue numbers coming up for Cordell,” said City Council president Steve McLaughlin. “Cordell’s numbers are coming up while other cities like Clinton, Weatherford, and Elk City are going down. I think that’s a good sign for the city’s progress and growth.”
