Last week the Washita County Activity Center in Cordell played host to the county’s first large-scale COVID-19 testing facility - a two-hour drive-through testing station.
According to Brady Roach, consumer health supervisor with the Comanche County Health Department, a total of 13 tests were administered at the drive-through testing site in Cordell. An additional 17 tests were administered at a similar site in Hobart on the same day.
“We are thankful for those who came out to be tested, but also realize that the small number of tests may give residents a false sense of safety,” said Brandie Combs, the District 5 regional director for the Oklahoma Department of Health. “The virus is very likely to be in communities, even if the number of positive cases doesn’t reflect it... we are asking everyone to continue to practice social distancing and remember the Governor’s order is still in place. Let’s get through this together. We don’t want to see a spike in positive cases in a week or so because groups decided to gather.”
Combs also noted that curbside testing is available at every county health department while testing supplies last. She advises anyone seeking a test to call ahead to make an appointment and receive instructions.
