Cordell Community Struggles With Tragic Wreck

The Cordell community was rocked by tragedy last week when a 15-yearold boy was killed, and three other teens injured, in a car wreck just outside of Cordell. The crash occurred at approximately 6:48 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019.

According to the report issued by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the teens were in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler on County Road 2270 approximately two miles south of Highway 152 just east of Cordell when the driver, 15-yearold Creed Bouse of Cordell, lost control of the vehicle.

Trooper Jared Boese reported the teens were traveling south at an “unsafe speed,” when the Jeep went airborne, causing the loss of control. The vehicle then left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and then rolled an undetermined number of times before coming to rest on its wheels.

Bouse was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cordell EMS. One 17-yearold girl was transported by Air Evac to Oklahoma University Medical Center and listed in stable condition. Two other girls, both 16, were treated and released at Cordell Memorial Hospital.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Cordell community rallied together to support the victim’s family and other students impacted by the incident. Cordell Public Schools provided students with counselors and staff to help them with the grieving process. The junior high school basketball game scheduled for Thursday was canceled.

“A crisis intervention team consisting of school counselors from across western Oklahoma was called in to help students deal with this tragic situation,” said superintendent Brad Overton. “The counselors did a tremendous job in helping our students deal with this incident, our staff members, along with the counselors, truly made a difference.”

The Calvary Baptist Church in Cordell opened its doors Thursday evening to host a gathering of students, parents, and friends of Bouse. The participants were asked to write down their favorite memories of the young man for a scrapbook being put together for his family. The students gathered and shared their own thoughts and feelings about their fallen classmate.

A fund to help support the young man’s family was created at Great Plains Bank. Donations can be delivered to the Cordell branch of the bank in the name of the Creed Bouse Support Trust.
