Recognizing the need for their residents’ families and friends to have a quiet, private place to relax and decompress from potentially stressful situations involving the care of their loved ones, the management staff of the Cordell Christian Home got together and created a family comfort room at the home.
The idea, said administrator Gail Wilcox, came from seeing family members and friends packed into resident rooms or waiting in hallways for their turn to visit a loved one. Wilcox said the room, which is furnished with couches and comfortable chairs, is stocked with snacks and beverages as well as games, puzzles, books, and a television to provide a comfortable, safe environment for families during extended visits to Cordell Christian Home residents.
“We saw a need when families come in a large group,” Wilcox said. “We saw the need for families to have privacy and to provide a place for children to wait in comfort instead of being in the hallways.”
Wilcox said the home’s management staff banded together to provide the furnishing and redecoration of the room. She extended an invitation for members of the community to visit Cordell Christian Home and see the new facility.
“This is all about our community,” she said.
