Can you tell use a little about yourself?
My name is Ashley Griffith. I am married to Don Griffith and we have two children, Callie, a 6th grader and Drew, a 2nd grader at Cordell Elementary. This is my 12th year teaching at Cordell Public Schools. I love to spend time with my family playing games, going to the movies, or just being outdoors.
What are your goals for the remainder of the school year?
To help my students reach their full potential in the classroom.
What has been your favorite moment from this year?
My favorite moment from this year so far has been participating in the Gotcha competition at the basketball kickoff night. This old basketball player was still able to hang with the young ones!
What was it that made you want to be a teacher?
As a high school senior here at Cordell I was Coach Rogers (she was Hilbert back then) aide during junior high athletics. I loved helping during that time and never will forget when one athlete just couldn’t make her free throws. I helped her with her shot a little and she made her first one. The look on her face was indescribable and one of the things that made me later realize I wanted to teach in some capacity.
What subject/grade do you teach and why that specific one?
I teach 7th grade math and geometry. I LOVE math! I want to help my students realize how much fun it can be and help to end the stigma that is associated with math.
What motivates you to be the best teacher/coach you can be?
The feeling of helping students reach the “Ah-ha” moment is truly a great one. Those moments no matter how big or small they may be are worth waking up and coming to work everyday!
When you’re not teaching, how do you like to spend your time?
I love to spend time with my family and church family as well as host them at functions at our home. I also like to workout or run especially when my kiddos join me! I love to cook but would love to be able to do it without having to clean up the dishes!
