The time to prepare for an epic day of celebrating America’s birthday is now! This year’s Fourth of July celebration is sure to bring the bang on Saturday, July 2.
The festivities are brought to you through the cooperation of the City of Cordell, Cordell Fire Department (CFD), and the Cordell Chamber of Commerce along with various local businesses. The fun will take place at Lee Park starting at 4 pm and continuing until 8, when the celebration will move to the Gregory Park sports complex. There will be tons of activities for the whole community to enjoy: a cornhole tournament, a variety of local vendors, food trucks and jump houses.
“We would really like to see the whole town come out and support Cordell,” said Chamber Executive Director Sarah Lau.
“The Chamber will be working the cornhole tournament and the jump houses. The cornhole tournament will be $20 for a team of two, and the preregistration deadline will be Monday, June 27, at 4pm; and $10 wristbands for the jump houses will be available, too. All the money we raise will go towards the Pumpkin Festival in the fall. We just hope people have fun!”
The star of the evening, Red, White and Boom Fireworks show, will take place at Gregory park near the baseball field. The City of Cordell has graciously helped with the cost and purchase of the fireworks to help put on an amazing show for the community. The CFD has put in a ton of work and effort to ensure an all-out-amazing firework display that is sure to please.
“We got this started last year, with the help from Sarah Lau, with the mindset of bringing more people to Cordell. She’s been really good about helping the fire department with our fundraisers and ideas,” stated Cordell Firefighter Jason Dudgeon.
“Last year was a huge success and we are hoping to make it just as big again this year. We would like to thank the citizens of Cordell for all the support the fire department receives and we love being able to give back to the community.”
The fireworks show will begin at dark and it is requested that individuals do not, by any means, shoot off personal fireworks until Monday, July 4.
“For safety precautions, absolutely no one is to be shooting off fireworks out there that night,” stated Dudgeon.
“Due to the size of the fireworks display, no one aside from those that are assisting in the show are allowed out there that day while we are setting up.”
Plan to enjoy a big small town Independence Day celebration all while supporting the community and city we all know and love.
