A come & go informational session: “Starting Your Child Care Business!”, will be held Tuesday, October 29th, from 3:00pm-6:00pm at the Jackson County DHS Office, 201 S. Main St. in Altus.

The number of licensed child care homes & center-based programs in the area has decreased in recent years; leaving families with limited options when it comes to licensed child care in Southwest Oklahoma.

Child Care Licensing staff from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) is partnering with Great Plains Child Care Resource & Referral (GPCCRR) to host the informational session. The goal of the event is to encourage & support those interested in exploring the idea of starting their own child care business.

“Recent rate increases for DHS subsidy reimbursement, along with high demand for quality, licensed child care in Southwest Oklahoma makes this a great time to start a Family Child Care Home business or even open a new Child Care Center in the area.” says, Amber Cuyler, Great Plains Child Care Resource & Referral Program Director.

Those interested can stop by to ask questions & pick up an informational packet. They can even start the application process with the assistance of a Child Care Licensing Specialist that evening. GPCCRR staff will be in attendance to share information regarding services & support available to newly licensed child care programs.

“If you’ve ever considered opening your own child care business, but didn’t know where to start, this event is exactly what you need!” says, Pamela Watson, OKDHS Child Care Licensing Specialist.

RSVP is encouraged so that an appropriate number of materials & supplies are available at the event. Please call 405-313-8004 or e-mail pamela.watson@okdhs.org to RSVP.
