Food, local shopping, and good times are on the agenda when the Cordell Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas In The Park event hits town on Saturday.

“It’s a celebration of the season,” said chamber president Jennifer Cary. “It’s a chance for the community to come together and do a bit of local shopping, eat some good food, and enjoy a day in the park with family, friends, and neighbors.”

The party starts at 12:00 noon on Saturday, Nov. 30, and will run until 7:00 p.m., highlighted by the annual parade, which begins at 5:00 p.m. and runs from the swimming pool area on Cordell’s Second Street up to Glenn English and then over to Third Street and up to Cordell High School. After the parade, Santa Claus will disembark from his sleigh and take pictures with kids in front of the fireplace in the park’s pavilion.

In addition to a variety of vendors, ranging from kitchen gadgets and storage to jewelry and homemade items, the event will also include two local food trucks, V’s Smokehouse and the Hillbilly Kitchen. Cordell’s cheerleaders will also be on hand serving hot cocoa and cider by donation. Code Blue is sponsoring this year’s sidewalk chalk contest, which will be held on the sidewalk south of the park pavilion, from noon until 3:00 p.m., and the chamber will be holding drawings every hour from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., giving away prizes donated by local businesses.

“Come out and get lunch and shop and enjoy Small Business Saturday,” said chamber events coordinator Sarah Lau. “Experience the feel of a smalltown Christmas with food and fun and a chance to win great prizes from our local merchants.”
