Cordell’s Chamber of Commerce once again is sponsoring a Halloween Festival on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Sarah Lau said that “Spook the Square” will begin at 6 p.m. and run through 10 p.m.

“It’s the third year we’ve done it,” said Lau. “We were planning to hold a great big event for the kids, but due to the Coronavirus, we’re scaling it back to just like the last two years,” she added.

Lau stressed, “we’re focused on handing out candy to the kids. The last two years we’ve had a good turnout.”

At 6 p.m. is when businesses can start handing out candy on the square, she said.

“If someone wants to come out with their vehicle and set up trunk or treat, they can do that, too. South Market Street is the best place to set up their vehicle,” she suggests.

“They can bring their vehicle beginning at 6 p.m.,” she said.

Lau noted, “We’re just trying to provide a safer environment for the kiddos. That’s why I started this event two years ago.

“It’s just handing out candy for the kids.”

Lau acknowledged, “there is no rhyme or reason to this. It’s just to allow the kiddos to receive candy in a safe place.”
