Black Lives Matter Protest Comes To Hobart

A small handful of peaceful protesters gathered in Hobart last week in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The demonstrators walked around the Kiowa County Courthouse carrying signs, some stopping to have friendly conversation with the law enforcement personnel on-hand.

Shortly before the planned demonstration, the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office sent out an agency assistance request to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, ostensibly to ensure enough of a police presence should matters get out of hand. The precaution, however, was proven unnecessary as the protesters remained peaceful and respectful, some even stopping to engage in friendly conversation with Kiowa County Sheriff Joe Janz and Undersheriff Sunny Segler.

The demonstration lasted for a little over an hour, with different protesters joining and others leaving. Janz and Segler remained on station for the duration of the protest.

There was no confrontation between protesters and law enforcement.
