In response to health concerns and to help combat the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), The Cordell Beacon has made the decision to close the office to public traffic.

“This was a difficult decision to make, since interacting with our readers is of vital importance to us,” said Beacon managing editor Bob Henline. “But there’s no denying that this pandemic is spreading and we’re going to do what we can to help slow it down. The bottom line is that we don’t know how bad this may get or when it may end. Until that happens, we’re going to do everything we can to protect the health of our staff and our community.”

The Beacon isn’t closing or slowing down operations. The newspaper remains committed to providing the people of Cordell and the surrounding areas with factual news reports about issues that matter to the community.

“It is especially important during times like this to keep researching news and reporting fact,” Henline said. “It’s unfortunate to see so much rumor and sheer nonsense circulating around. It is our job to provide our readers with facts they can use to help protect themselves and their families, and we intend to keep doing that job to the very best of our abilities. We have a very skilled and dedicated staff here, and we’re going to keep doing what we do for Cordell and the surrounding community. At this time we don’t anticipate any delays or issues with our publication or delivery, but we’ll keep our readers informed of any changes.”

The Beacon intends to rely heavily on digital news delivery in the coming weeks, with daily updates being posted to The Beacon’s website at www.cordellbeacon.com. All print subscriptions include the digital service at no extra cost.

Henline encouraged anyone with issues or concerns to contact him directly at The Beacon. The office phone number is 580-832-3333. He can also be reached by email at editor@cordellbeacon.com.
