Washita County voters will have a choice to make in November’s general election. Long-time deputy clerk Kim Batt has decided to throw her hat in the ring and will seek election to the post of Clerk Of The District Court.

Batt has worked in the clerk’s office for nine years now and obtained her state certification in 2016, but her history runs deeper. Batt’s mother, Janie Bellah, worked in the county assessor’s office and her grandmother, Judy Boggs, worked in the court clerk’s office.

“I grew up in the courthouse,” she said. “I’m living my dream but I want to take the next step and become an elected official.”

Batt said the clerk of the court has a number of duties, but two stand out to her as being the most important: keeping and preserving records and serving the public. She said most of the people coming into the office are dealing with difficult times and it’s important that the clerk and deputies can put on a helpful and professional face when taking care of them. She added that there are times when the office handles happy situations, like marriage licenses and adoptions, but there are trying circumstances that require a steady and professional approach.

“I am highly motivated and willing to go the extra mile to meet goals,” she said. “I am a problem solver. If I don’t know the answer I will find it. I look forward to contributing my skills and experience if given the opportunity by the voters of Washita County.”
