Layken Makenna Thompson, a resident of rural Washita County, could be facing life in prison following her Sept. 10, 2019, arrest on charges of drug possession with intent to distribute and harboring a fugitive from justice. Thompson has been charged with two felony counts of unlawful possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, one felony count of harboring a fugitive from justice, and one misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the affidavit for arrest warrant filed in the case by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics agent on the case, Thompson and Jeremy Ian Poos, who was charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor the previous week, were under surveillance by agents with the United States Marshall’s Service, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and deputies from both the Washita and Custer County Sheriff’s Offices, pending the execution of a search warrant on the suspect property, two camper trailers parked together in Washita County. The agent wrote that agents observed Thompson and Poos, firing handguns on the property. Once the shooting stopped, the perimeter surveillance team instructed a second team of agents to execute the search warrant. Apparently noticing the approach of the agents, Poos barricaded himself inside one of the camper trailers, triggering a two-hour standoff with law enforcement.
“Moments before the agents arrived on the property, Poos came back outside, appeared to take notice of the approaching agents, and barricaded himself in the west-most camper trailer,” he wrote. “It should be noted at this time, Layken Thompson was in the east-most camper trailer. Agents surrounded the camper trailers and secured a perimeter... Using a loud speaker, agents identified themselves, announced they had a search warrant, and gave the occupants commands to exit the camper trailers. After a short time, Layken Thompson emerged from the east-most camper and peacefully turned herself in to agents. For over two hours, Poos refused to respond or cooperate with agents. The OHP Tactical Team responded and was successful in forcing Poos out of the camper trailer.”
A supplemental search warrant was then issued, which included a seach for firearms as well as additional contraband. Agents performed the search and seized several firearms, drugs, and drug paraphernalia, which were still being processed by OBN and the OSBI Forensic Laboratory as of press time.
Poos was wanted in Custer County on a felony charge of distribution of controlled dangerous substances. The charge alleges Thompson knew Poos was a fugitive and knowingly harbored him.
Thompson is currently in custody in the Washita County Justice Center.
