Area Fire Departments Provide Students With Safety Education

The Cordell, Rocky, and Cloud Chief fire departments partnered last week to host the Cordell Elementary Pre-K and Kindergarten students for a fire safety lesson at the Cordell fire station.

The kids rode from the school to the station atop Cordell, Rocky, and Cloud Chief fire engines and were then treated to lunch, lessons, and an overall good time from the firefighters.

“Every year we team up with our local fire departments and haul the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes from Cordell Elementary to the fire department for fire prevention month,” said Cordell firefighter Jason Dudgeon. “We would like to thank Rocky and Cloud Chief Fire for helping us again this year. This is one of the funnest times to be a fireman because we get to see so many little kids and interact with each one. We feed them and teach them several things not often thought about. We teach them to make plans with parents about where to meet up, the importance of staying low under the heat and smoke in a fire while trying to escape their house if it’s on fire, and not to be scared of a fireman with all of our gear and equipmen on if we have to come in the house to get them. But more than anything we teach them, going down the pole, spraying water, and riding on a fire truck is something they will remember forever, and ultimately, maybe lead a few back later to want to be in the fire or EMS services.”
