April Municipal Election will see contested races

While the candidate filing period for the April Municipal Election won’t end until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th, the Beacon can report that as of press time at noon on Tuesday several candidates have filed for various positions.

Two candidates, Phil Kliewer and Earlene Smith, have declared their candidacy for the office of City of Cordell Mayor, which is currently held by Jerry Beech.

Kliewer has previously served as Mayor and is notable for his leadership of the city in the aftermath of the 2001 F3 tornado. Smith is currently serving as a City Council member representing Ward 2.

Greg Cox has filed for the Cordell City Council seat representing Ward 1, Carl Ramsey has filed for the Cordell City Council seat representing Ward 2, and Darryl Anthony and Buddy Holman have filed for the Cordell City Council seat representing Ward 3.

Cheri Nabors and James Newman Jr. have filed for the unexpired term for the Cordell City Council seat representing Ward 3 which is currently held by Newman.

Karla Ferrero has filed for the position of City of Cordell City Clerk. The positions of City Marshall and City Treasurer have had no candidates file thus far.

Town of Canute has had two candidates file for the Town Board of Trustees, Jerry L. Bohanon and Jan Kamphaus.

Town of Corn has had two candidates file for the Town Board of Trustees, Eric Vandever and Mathew Thiessen.

Janet Sproull has filed for a full-term seat on the Town of Dill City Board of Trustees, and Ronald Joe Roskam has filed for the unexpired term .

Leanna Dobbs has filed for a full-term seat on the Town of Rocky Board of Trustees, and Jerri Earley has filed for the unexpired term.

Three candidates have filed for the Town of Sentinel Board of Trustees: Jack Coody, Sam Dlugonski, and Yvetta Real. Elissia Chandler has filed for the position of Town of Sentinel Town Clerk-Treasurer.

The Municipal Election will be held on April 4th.
