4-Hers Use Technology To Hold Annual Speech Contest During Quarantine

Fourteen Washita County 4-H members participated in the annual speech contest, Monday, April 20.

This year, they competed virtually through an online video meeting platform called Zoom.

“I didn’t want our members to miss out on the skills learned from writing and delivering a speech,” said Washita County 4-H Educator, Dana Church. “I didn’t know how many families would really adapt to the new contest format, but I was very pleased with the number of members that entered.”

Each contestant and three judges received a link to join a ‘meeting’ over their computers or smart phones. Each speaker had a designated order to deliver their speech and answer questions from the judges live. The judges ranked the contestants and Church announced the results through Facebook Live.
