“Rolling Domestic” Results In High Speed Chase, Felony Charges
A Sentinel man is facing the possibility of life in prison after what police termed a “rolling domestic” resulted in a high speed chase through the area around Sentinel.
Adrian Sloan Elston, age 22, was arrested by Washita County Sheriff’s deputies in the early morning hours of May 5 and charged with one felony count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one felony count of endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police officer, and a misdemeanor count of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in the case, Washita County Sheriff’s Deputy Corey Armfield was dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of CR2150 and CR1260, “for a report of a rolling domestic,” Armfield wrote. “Dispatch notified me that an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend were in two different vehicles and the ex-boyfriend had just ran into his ex-girlfriend’s car after chasing her around the county.”
As he was arriving, Armfield said dispatch notified him that the male subject, later identified as Elston, had started his truck and was leaving the scene. Armfield reported seeing the lights from the truck headed toward him on CR1260, so he activated his emergency lights.
“I activated my emergency lights and the truck sped up and came directly at my patrol car,” Armfield wrote in his report. “I swerved hard right into the ditch and the truck kept going straight never changing course.”
Armfield began pursuing the truck, going onto Highway 44 southbound and into Sentinel at speeds reported of up to 100 miles per hour. Elston reportedly continued speeding through Sentinel on Highway 44, heading south. About a mile south of town, Armfield reported the truck narrowly missed a white pickup then swerved into the oncoming lane and almost caused a head-on collision with a semi.
Armfield continued the pursuit until Elston attempted a right turn at CR1360 and “his drive train gave out and flew from under the vehicle.”
At that point Elston reportedly exited his disabled vehicle with his hands in the air. He was taken into custody while officers cleared the vehicle, then Elston reportedly started yelling at the officers, telling them “I’m [expletive deleted] drunk,” and “take me to [expletive deleted] jail [expletive deleted.]”
When Armfield asked Elston why he ran, Elston reportedly responded with, “because I [expletive deleted] wanted to.”
Elston’s Intoxilyzer result for blood alcohol content was reported at 0.09.
Elston has previous convictions for felony larceny of gasoline and conspiracy in 2016 and two misdemeanor convictions for uttering a false instrument in Custer County in 2018.
Due to the previous convictions, the assault and battery charge carries a potential sentence of 10 years to life and the eluding charge carries up to 10 years. The DWI charge can be punished by up to one year.
