Wenona (Latimer) Dunn was born Nov. 10, 1920, on a farm southeast of Lexington in Cleveland County. She was the eldest child of Kirk and Pearl (Rigney) Latimer. She left this world on May 26, 2020, at the age of 99.

In 1921 she moved with her parents to the Latimer farm, known as Latimer Corner, south of Foss, where she grew up and graduated Foss High School in 1938. After attending Keen’s Business College in Elk City, she was employed in Sayre, where she met Walter. They were married Oct. 19, 1941, in Sayre, and made their home in Clinton. To this marriage were born four sons, David, Kenneth, John and Steve.

After Walter returned from service in the Army Air Corps, they first lived in Clinton, then in Wewoka, and later in Sayre. In 1957 they moved to Wheeler, Texas, and in 1968 to Donna, Texas. While living in Donna, she attended Pan American University and served as church secretary. In 1975 they returned to Latimer Corner to help care for her parents. For several years she served as a clerk at the Foss Post Office. They moved to Elk City in 2000, and to Georgetown, Texas, in 2006 to be near children.

Wenona was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, and for many years taught children’s and ladies’ Bible classes.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007; her parents; her son Kenneth in 1946; her sister Laurel McNatt in 2006; and grandson Michael in 2020.

She is survived by her sons, David and his wife Barbara of Sherwood, Ore., John and his wife Gracie of Ingram, Texas, and Steve and his wife Sandi, of Granger, Texas; also by 11 grandchildren: Ken, and his wife Stacey, Mark, Renee and her husband Kevin Schlachter, Jennifer Dunn, Vickie Dunn, Erica and her husband, Robert Katz, Chris, Jeff, McKenzie and Kirk Dunn; also by 11 great-grandchildren: Ashleigh, Kennan, Ryann, Kristian, Velahni, Jason, Brodi, Katie, Alex, Aleph and Fabian.; and by her brother, R.C. Latimer, and his wife Rita, of Pharr, Texas.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, with Jeff Loftiss officiating.
