Rilma Hulett

May 7, 1935– Dec. 26, 2022

Rilma Hulett of Bethany, OK, born Rilma Lodema Betche on May 7, 1935, was the daughter of the late Harry and Hazel Betche of Gotebo, OK and the younger sister of the late Charles Betche of Gotebo. She departed this earthly life in her home on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the age of 87.

Rilma was a devoted wife and mother for the 52 years of her marriage to Roger V. Hulett of Gotebo until he passed in 2007. Roger and Rilma had three sons: Ted L. Hulett (deceased), Terry V. Hulett (of Austin, TX), and Greg S. Hulett (of Oklahoma City).

Rilma graduated from Lake Valley School and received her BS in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford,

OK. After Roger graduated from Oklahoma City University, Rilma and Roger spent a year in Boston, MA before living in Brunswick, ME, Grand Forks, ND, Moses Lake, WA, and again in Boston. In 1961, Rilma and Roger moved to Raytown, MO where they built their first home before moving to Bethany, OK in 1966. In Bethany, Rilma continued raising their children and taught school for many years at Western Oaks Junior High and Elementary School.

Rilma enjoyed reading a good book, square dancing, sewing, quilt making, yardwork/gardening, Christmas lights, OKC Thunder and OSU sports. Besides her numerous hobbies, Rilma dedicated many long hours helping to coordinate activities at the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association yearly show and many tireless hours serving rescuers in the aftermath of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murray Federal Building. She took special enjoyment in spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren.

Rilma is survived by her son, Ted’s children; granddaughter, Aubrey Brock and husband C. J. Brock; and granddaughter, Olivia Haines and husband Jarred Haines; son, Terry and wife, Tina; granddaughters, Tera L. Gazaway and husband Scott Gazaway, Michaela A. Hulett and wife Lauren Lucas, and Jessica Taylor Hulett; grandson, Richard A. Chism; son, Greg and longtime friend Jerrilyn Johnston; grandson, Seth Freymiller; and ten great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Ernst of Clinton, OK and sister-in-law, Nettie Seale of Grove, OK, as well as several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and greatnephews.

The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 11:00 am at Mercer- Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, OK, with viewing on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm with the family being present from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Interment will be in Odessa Cemetery in Gotebo, OK at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
