Russell Stewart will be a candidate for the position of Sheriff in Washita County.

His journey in law enforcement began in 2002 when he became a Reserve Deputy under the leadership of Sheriff Ron Mazurek. Since then, he has dedicated his life to serving the community, progressing from a Jailer and Dispatcher to a full-time Deputy in Washita County.

In 2006, Russell completed the Cleet Academy, cementing my commitment to professional development in law enforcement.

Growing up, Russell attended Clinton High School and graduated in the Class of 1986. He is a proud a resident of Corn, Oklahoma, where he lives with his wife, Teresa King Stewart, since 2020. Teresa is also deeply rooted in the community, having graduated from Washita Heights in the Class of 1987. Together, they have established a loving home and raised two daughters and one son. Over the course of his 21-year career in the Sheriffs Department, Russell has continuously strived to enhance his knowledge and skills in law enforcement and has completed over 1000 hours of training through the Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLE ET) courses. These courses have equipped him with the necessary tools to effectively serve and protect the citizens of Washita County.

Russell has received accolades from notable organizations such as the Oklahoma Sheriffs Association, and the State of Oklahoma’s prestigious Julie Levy Award. In 2008, He proudly became a core member of the Custer-Washita County Child Protection Team. In 2020, Russell had the privilege of being honored with a distinguished National Law Enforcement Award presented by the esteemed Zero Abuse Project.

At present, Russell serves as an Internet Crimes Against Children Investigator with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, diligently working to safeguard our young ones. Additionally, He is an active core member in the Washita County Coalition Development and Research Outreach to Support Drug-Free Communities.

If elected as Sheriff, Russell promises to prioritize the safety and well-being of our community.

He understands the importance of a strong law enforcement presence in maintaining peace and order by implementing, proactive measures and collaborating with other agencies. By doing so, he can create a safer environment for all residents. Additionally, He believes in fostering open communication with the community, ensuring that their needs and concerns are heard and addressed promptly.

Furthermore, Russell recognizes that law enforcement must adapt to the changing landscape of crime and technology. He is committed to staying update on advancements in the field, allowing our departments to remain at the forefront of combating criminal activity effectively.
