The Cordell City Council will hold a special meeting to discuss, for the second time, a proposed mask ordinance at 5 p.m. Friday at the Community Center behind City Hall.

The call for a special meeting comes as concern about the spread of COVID-19 in Washita County and the state is growing. COVID-19 numbers have been steadily increasing daily.

The ordinance could be similar to the mask ordinance the city of Clinton passed this week, city administrator JC Moser said.

That mask ordinance was pretty wide-ranging. "The best way to craft this is to cast a wide net and then pull things back out," Clinton city attorney Ryan Meacham said in Clinton Daily News story.

The Cordell city council considered a mask ordinance during its October meeting but voted unanimously not to have one.

Councilwoman Vicki Dunlap spoke about the need for a possible ordinance in Monday's council meeting, but because it wasn't an agenda item, the city had to call a special meeting.
