Two area residents were killed Monday, July 22, 2019, in an accident involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial rig on US Highway 183 north of Roosevelt in Kiowa County.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., a 2005 Chevrolet driven by Kelli Jo Wright, 21, of Altus, went left of center on the highway and struck a 2015 Peterbilt. Both Wright and her passenger, Tyler Glenn Mefford, 21, of Oklahoma City, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City.
The driver of the Peterbilt, 60-year-old Jeffrey K. Williams of Hobart, was not injured in the collision.
According to the report of Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Lane Gossen, neither occupant of the Chevrolet was wearing safety belts. Williams’ seat belt was reportedly in use. The conditions of both drivers at the time of the incident are listed as under investigation as of press time.
