1995-Annual Pumpkin Festival Arrives Saturday
It’s that time of year again. The air has a cool crispness to it, the leaves are changing color and orange pumpkins are sprouting in every nook and cranny.
The 8th annual Pumpkin Festival returns to the county seat this Saturday and is expected to attract over 3,000 people.
George Roper, who along with Robert Goettsch was a co-organizer for the 1995 Pumpkin Festival, said this year’s event promises to be bigger and better.
Roper said the festival, which started eight years ago as a baking contest, has over 130 booth spaces allocated for the downtown square, where all the festivities occur. Roper expects to fill all the booths with food, crafts and carnival rides.
He said the festival date was moved up by two Saturdays, so the celebration would be focused on pumpkins and not jack-olanterns.
“We encourage everyone to come to Cordell for a fun day of eating, shopping and visiting with neighbors,” Roper said.
