Cordell Memorial Hospital

A Message from Melinda Laird, CEO/CNO

July is here and we are halfway through the year!!! Christmas will be here before you know it and school starts in about a month.

We are excited to be bringing you the Back to School Bash again this year. It will be August 4, at the Washita Community Center from 9: 00a.m to 3:00p.m. There will be many of the same booths plus many more, there will be food and Last Straw will also be joining us. There will be car seat checks, booster seats and new this year will be bike safety. You can see the flyer on CMH Facebook, and we will be sending to out to the schools and in the communities in Washita County. If you have any questions, please contact us at CMH. The heat is here and we encourage you to take care of yourself. July is a good time to raise awareness that UV is the root cause of most skin cancers and encourages you to take precautions. This includes—seek shade when appropriate, wear sun-protective clothing and apply a broad-spectrum water- resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

Talking about skin care let’s me remind you and introduce you to the Dermatologist that comes to Cordell every week on Thursday. Dr. Ray Cornelison is a Dermatologist that has a history of caring for skin in Oklahoma. Please contact the Specialty Clinic, 580-832-2222 to schedule your appointment and be skin safe!

I want to remind you of the providers that here in Cordell provide care for you and your family. Dr. Abernathy, Darrell Hill and Kelsey Jackson are the team at the CMH Family Clinic, they have a great history of caring for our communities and continuing that care for more years to come. Please contact the clinic for your needs or if you are looking for someone to be your Primary Care Provider. In the Specialty Clinic Dr. Azuero has been providing Family Medicine to the community since she joined the team in February. She loves rural health and is excited to care for our communities for more years to come. The Specialties at the clinic include cardiology and dermatology. We are looking to add more as we see the need. For Women’s Health, Kelsey Jackson and Dr. Azuero also provide Women’s Health as part of their commitment to Family Medicine.

This mid-year time is also when some or many of you are starting to receive calls, emails and mail information about Medicare, Medicare Adv, etc. We want to be here to help clear up confusion and help you make decisions that are best for you and your care. Please contact us with any questions, 580-8323339.

Summer heart health during the summer is also important. It is crucial to stay hydrated, avoid overheating, and be mindful of your activity level and diet. Prioritizing to stay cool and this includes this time of high humidity. Consider indoor activities when temperatures and humidity are high.

For your health and wellness,

Melinda
