The Cordell High School girls’ golf team continued its dominant run to close out the regular season, earning the No. 1 rank in Class 2A while competing against larger schools across western Oklahoma.
The Lady Blue Devils opened the stretch on April 1 at the Western Equipment Classic in Weatherford, where they placed second as a team behind Class 4A No. 3 Elk City. Mackinlee Brunker led the way as the individual champion, while Birdie Brown added a sixth-place finish.
Cordell returned to Elk City on April 6 and faced another strong field, finishing fourth behind Class 5A No. 4 Bishop McGuinness, Class 4A No. 3 Elk City, and Class 4A No. 4 Clinton. Brunker once again claimed the individual title, while Brown finished third.
At the Clinton High School Tournament on April 8 at Riverside Golf Course, the Lady Blue Devils placed fourth in a competitive field that included Class 3A No. 1 and defending state champion Marlow, No. 3 Casady, and Class 4A No. 4 Clinton. Brunker earned runner-up honors, Mylee Brunker finished third, and Brown placed sixth.
The junior high girls also hosted a successful Cordell JH Open at Crooked Creek Golf Course, welcoming 47 golfers from 11 schools. Merritt took first place as a team, followed by Tuttle in second.
On the boys’ side, the Cordell High School varsity competed April 1 at the Clinton High School Tournament, with Jaxon Davis, Conner Gregg, Corben Dobbs, and Raygan Wehunt representing the Blue Devils.
Both varsity and junior varsity squads competed on April 8 at the Sayre Invitational, where the team placed third overall. Davis led the effort with a fourth-place finish, followed by Briggs Reeves in seventh.
Cordell continued its schedule on April 13 at Elk City, where the varsity boys finished sixth in the small school division. Davis placed seventh individually with a score of 74 (+3).
In junior high action, Cordell hosted the upcoming JH Boys Open at Crooked Creek, with 63 golfers from 12 schools scheduled to compete.
Highlighting the week, Cordell’s head coach JJ Williams was named the Oklahoma Coaches Association Region 4 High School Golf Coach of the Year during the April 8 meeting.
With the regular season complete, the Lady Blue Devils now turn their focus to postseason play. Cordell was set to travel to Guymon to compete in the OSSAA Class 2A Regionals on April 20, looking to carry their momentum into the championship stretch.
