Perfect 4.0 & first-place start! Lady Blue Devils make statement at State

It’s been a week to remember for the Cordell Lady Blue Devils, who are proving they can dominate both in the classroom and on the course.

The Cordell High School girls’ golf team was recently named Class 2A State Academic Champions by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, finishing with a perfect 4.0 team GPA. The honor, shared in a tie with Merritt and Sayre, highlights the team’s commitment to excellence beyond competition and sets a high standard for student-athletes across the state.

And if their academic success wasn’t impressive enough, the Lady Blue Devils carried that momentum straight into the State Tournament.

Following Monday’s opening round at the Class 2A State Tournament in Muskogee, Cordell sits firmly in first place after posting a team score of 367. The Lady Blue Devils hold a 27-stroke lead over second-place Turner and are 34 strokes ahead of defending state champion Hooker heading into the final round.

Cordell’s success was fueled by strong individual performances across the lineup.

MacKinlee Brunker and Mylee Brunker each carded rounds of 77 (+6) and are currently tied for second place individually, keeping both within reach of the top spot. Birdie Brown added an 86 (+15), placing her inside the top 10 and contributing to the team’s overall lead.

The Lady Blue Devils will return to the course Tuesday morning, with tee times beginning at 10:20 a.m., as they look to finish what has already been an impressive performance at state.
