From the opening tip, the energy inside the gym was undeniable, radiating from the court and into the stands as Cordell took control and never looked back. The Lady Blue Devils executed on both ends of the floor, combining disciplined defense with confident offensive play to secure the decisive win.
For Head Coach Love, the victory carried special meaning. “I couldn’t be more proud of this team,” Coach Love said. “Winning districts over Mangum means a lot to our program and to me personally. It’s my first district win as a head coach, and I’m especially thankful it came with these young ladies. I couldn’t be more grateful to be able to coach this group.”
Coach Love was quick to give credit where it was due to the players who had put in countless hours behind the scenes.
“This moment belongs to the players. They’ve put in the work when no one was watching and earned this opportunity. From the extra time in the gym to the way they compete and step up for one another, it all showed when it mattered most. Their composure, especially for a team this young, was impressive. They trusted each other and got the job done.”
With the district championship secured, Cordell now turns its focus to the regional tournament. At the time of publishing the Beacon, the Lady Blue Devils will have taken the court on Tuesday, February 24, at 6:00 p.m. in Watonga, carrying the same intensity, energy, and effort that propelled them to the district title.
On the boys’ side, the Cordell Blue Devils faced a tough challenge against the Mangum Tigers, falling 74-34 in district play. While the outcome was not what they hoped for, the season is not over.
The Blue Devils will look to regroup and respond as they compete in the regional tournament Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Watonga, with another opportunity to extend their postseason run.
Both teams continue to represent Cordell with pride as they battle through the postseason.
