The Cordell Blue Devils junior high and elementary teams delivered hard-fought victories on Monday, September 23rd, at Blue Devil Stadium. Facing the Boone-Apache Warriors, both teams showed heart, grit, and significant improvement, marking the first wins of the Cordell football program this season.
In the elementary game, the Blue Devils edged out the Warriors in a nail-biting 8-6 victory. Draydon Neeley connected with Noah Munden for a critical 10-yard touchdown pass, followed by a two-point conversion run by Neeley himself. Cooper Chagollia anchored the defense, leading the team in tackles, supported by an energetic defensive squad. Aiden Findley led the rushing attack, finding openings thanks to the offensive line and receivers. The Blue Devils’ determination never wavered, securing the win with resilience and teamwork.
The junior high team followed with an equally exciting 32-22 triumph over the Warriors. Quarterback Briggs Reeves lit up the scoreboard, passing for an impressive 233 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score. Jaxon Davis contributed six receptions for 50 yards and successfully converted two two-point conversions. Bentley White caught two passes for 66 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown, though a 58-yard touchdown was called back due to a penalty. Raygan Wehunt had a standout game with three receptions for 42 yards, two touchdowns, and two crucial interceptions on defense. Kachous Whiting added 67 rushing yards to balance the offense.
Coach Munden praised the Blue Devils’ defensive efforts, noting the junior high team recorded three sacks and three interceptions (two by Wehunt and one by Reeves) and forced two fumbles recovered by Davis. White led the defense in tackles and pressures, showcasing the team’s all-around intensity.
