Blue Devils sports: The week in review

BASEBALL

As of press time, the Cordell Baseball Boys are 8-4 for the season, 2-2 in district play, with a lot more baseball to look forward to in the next few weeks.

Mon, March 29

Hobart 19, Cordell 3

In their first game of the busy week, the Cordell Baseball Boys fell to the Hobart Bearcats. The loss was a result of control problems on the hill that led to walks and errors. Despite the loss, Danny Schmidt showed solid glovework at second base. At the plate, Shane Pekins led the team with 2 RBI.

Tues March 30,

Hobart 9, Cordell 7

Competing much better in their second game of the week, the Cordell boys came up only a little bit short against the Hobart Bearcats. In this game, pitcher Dawson Willard took a loss on the hill with 10 hits, one strikeout, and one walk, but only allowed one error. In the centerfield, Dane COrbin utilized his speed to run down a couple of well hit balls. At the plate, Willard and Perkins led the team with 2 RBI each.

Thurs, April 1

Snyder 7, Cordell 6

In their first game of the Hobart Battle of the Big Bats Tournament, Cordell fell to the Snyder Cyclones. The Cordell Boys held Snyder scoreless until the fifth inning, when they got the bats going for a one run lead. Cordell tied up the game in the sixth inning, only to lose in the bottom on a suicide squeeze bunt. On the mound, Adden Zanghi took the loss with six hits, six strikeouts, six pitches out of the strike zone, and four errors. Coach Blackburn commended Zanghi for “feilding his position well and assisting on three plays.” At the plate, Brady Reimer, Kameron Rivera, and Willard all matched each other's efforts, finishing the game with one RBI each.

Fri, April 2

Cordell 10, Elk City JV

On the second day of the Hobart Battle of the Big Bats Tournament, the Cordell Boys buckled down and brought home the first win of the week. Serving as the winning pitcher in this game, Raydon Kuehne struck out six batters, with zero walks, three hits, and only one error. On second base, Schmidt continued to anchor the plate with his solid performance. At the plate, JD Maddox stole two bases and scored one run, while Blaine Larsen led the team with 3 RB

Cordell 10, Hobart 2

In their final game of the Hobart Tournament the blue devils were pitted against the Hobart Bearcats for the fourth time that week. As Pitcher, Willard threw well, with five strikeouts, six hits, two walks, and only one error. Kuehne and Schmidt had key plays up the middle all day, showing good leather. Corbin and Zanghi led the team in terms of RBI with two each.

GIRL'S SOCCER

Tues, March 30

OCS 11, Cordell 1

In their first and only game of the week, the Cordell Lady Blue Devil Soccer Team fell to the Oklahoma Christian School Lady Saints. Erin Dudgeon scored the teams one point.

BOY'S SOCCER

Tues, March 30,

OCS 9, Cordell 0

The Cordell boys fell to the OCS Saints last Tuesday despite a valiant effort. In this game the boys were unable to score a single point.

Cordell High School Golf @ Weatherford Tournament

In their first tournament of the season the Cordell HS golf team fared well. In this battle, the team was pitted against more than just the opposing schools, but also rough weather and tough greens. Head Coach Brandon Gallagher is proud of the team’s performance, and looks forward to the rest of the season.
