Cordell golf standout Heston Brown finished in a five-way tie for seventh place at the Oklahoma Golf Association qualifier at Lincoln Park Monday, July 8, 2019. Brown’s four-under round of 67 was enough to qualify him for the OGA State Amateur Championship to be held later this month.

In total, 44 golfers qualified at Lincoln Park this week. The cut was made at an even-par 71, with 11 of the 14 who made par qualifying for the championship.

“Heston loves golf and works extremely hard on his game,” said his mother, Amy Brown. “There isn’t anyone more deserving than he is. He puts in an incredible amount of work every day. It is rewarding to see that hard work paying off for him. Regardless of the outcome, we are very proud of him, but we do love seeing him win.”

Brown golfed at Cordell High School for four years. He was named to the All-State team during his 2017 senior season. He will be starting his junior year golfing for Southwestern Oklahoma State University this fall.

The state amateur championship will be held at Edmond’s Oak Tree National Golf Course July 22-24, 2019. The field will consist of Oklahoma’s 64 best amateur golfers, with two rounds on Monday, July 22, cutting the field to 16 for Tuesday’s round of 16 and quarter-final rounds. The semi-finals and finals will be Wednesday, July 24. It is a matchplay tournament.
