Cordell’s Lady Blue Devils struggled through a rough week and, despite strong play, lost both of their games last week.

The week started on Tuesday as the Lady Devils hosted the Lady Tigers of Mangum. The girls started off strong, running and gunning in the first half of play. As the teams headed into the locker room at the half, the Lady Devils were only down two points.

Mangum’s girls took over in the third quarter, though, running the lead up to 14 points and then cruising to the 48-33 victory over the Lady Devils.

“We actually played a great first half,” said head coach Jana Rogers. “We were only down two. I thought we were playing great defense as well. The third quarter was our struggle, getting outscored 18-6. We did have a strong performance from Bailey Troub in the post area this game. I do see improvement in areas, we just have to find a way to create some wins out of it. We still struggle taking care of the ball and giving up too many offensive rebounds.”

On Friday the girls traveled to Burns Flat-Dill City for a contest with the Lady Eagles. The Lady Devils struggled from the outset, managing just one point in the first quarter. Cordell’s girls fought back after the opening setback, but were just never able to overcome the pressure of the Lady Eagles and came off the court with a 46-26 loss.

“Burns Flat had some strong performances from several of their players,” Rogers said. “I was most surprised with their post play. They haven’t been real strong all year, but they looked great Friday night. We didn’t play our best game, turning the ball over way too much. We also struggled to find the basket, especially in the first quarter where we scored just one point. But we will keep after it and hopefully things will get better for us. I’m proud of the girls and that they keep working hard. That’s all I can ask with this young group.”
