Medical professionals, patients and their families are increasingly seeing the value of home care, and the industry is expected to grow. In fact, home health and personal care aide job openings are projected to grow 33% from 2020 to 2030, with experts predicting an estimated 8.2 million job openings in home-based care by 2028. Industry experts say that workers from all backgrounds, not just nursing, will be needed now and in the future.

As winter weather began moving in, blood donors began cancelling appointments and blood drives were delayed, forcing an already struggling blood supply to critically low levels. Our Blood Institute (OBI) in Oklahoma is asking donors to reschedule appointments as the weather clears.

It seems that our new normal in all aspects of daily living continue to change because of the ongoing COVID crisis. A noticeable impact we are all very aware of has been for the residents in long-term care.

2023 has started with a lots of activity and things happening at CMH. As you have read in last week’s news the Clinton hospital closed at noon on December 31 and we began to receive patients in our ED.

The doctors, nurses and Cordell Memorial Hospital (CMH) staff members are handling an influx of new patients due to the temporary closing of the Clinton hospital at midnight on December 31, 2022, when Alliance Health’s lease officially ended. The City of Clinton is working jointly with Carrus Health, the new manager of their hospital, to ensure the hospital will be up and running as early as possible. However, that opening could be months away.

Happy New Year, 2023 is here and many things are happening during this year. We first want to reflect on what we have been able to provide to the people of Washita County and the community of Cordell.
