Cordell Blue Devil High School Football ended their season with a win against Mountain View on Thursday night, breaking a long string of losses that began in 2021 after their 34 - 26 defeat of Rush Springs.
The organization has seen several coaches come and go during this time, and factors such as falling player numbers, injuries, and tough competition formed a perfect storm that proved hard to overcome. Steady improvements during the current season culminated in a final game that lifted spirits and had loyal supporters on their feet as the game ended with players in a line, arm in arm, swaying to the Blue Devil Band’s rendition of the Alma Mater.
It was a long-awaited moment that went a long way towards soothing tired players’ souls.
Head Coach Nick Bobeck said “I am proud of the progress that was made this season and was happy for the kids to be able to end the season in a positive way. The young people in our program have a great deal of courage and are laying the foundation for future success. It was great for Samuel Lindsey to end his HS career with a win.”
Bobeck elaborated, “In the game we had four different players score touchdowns, with three of them coming the second half after adjustments were made at halftime. I was most proud of the guys being able to make adjustments. This is not something we had been able to do earlier in the year. This shows that their understanding of the game is improving.”
Each small improvement is like a brick. Rebuilding and strengthening a program isn’t something that can be done overnight, but Coach Bobeck and the rest of the coaching staff are ready to help the Blue Devils build a legacy, brick by brick..
