‘Soft opening’ for Adams Lake will proceed as planned

Adams Lake will welcome visitors on July 4th for the first time in several years. City workers and volunteers have been busy working on pathways and areas of shoreline that will allow an up-close view of the thriving ecosystem at the lake.

Visitors can enjoy kayaking (bring your own), fishing, exploring, biking, and relaxing from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4th. Swimming may not be appealing due to excess vegetation near the shoreline.

For this day only, fishing licenses will not be required. The lake has many species of fish such as catfish and bass.

Although the area may be used for recreation, it is important to remember that it is actually classified as a nature preserve and is home to many types of animals. Deer, possum, armadillos, lizards, snakes, beaver and turtles are commonly seen as well as evcry insect Oklahoma has to offer! Bug repellant spray would be helpful.

City Officials emphasize that absolutely no fireworks are allowed. Visitors are asked to bring their own trash bags and pack out what you bring in to the lake area.

Most benches and tables are in need of repair, so bring your own camp chairs.

Lastly, it is important to remember that the bridge to the lake is closed to vehicle traffic at this time. You must park and walk across the bridge to the lake.

If you aren’t familiar with the location, head west on Hwy 152 from Cordell to Dill City. Turn right onto N. 2160 Rd and continue three miles North to the lake.

Come out, leave your fireworks at home, and enjoy an old-fashioned day in the natural oasis that is Adams Lake.
