Local girls headed to Reno for World of Wrestling Championship

This coming weekend will be an eventful one to say the least for two exceptional girls. Baylor Moore, 14 years old, and Preslie Dickerson, 6 years old, will travel to Reno, Nevada where they will compete for the World of Wrestling’s 26th Annual Reno World Championship wrestling title. World of Wrestling is dedicated to the promotion of America’s youth and the great sport of wrestling. Moore and Dickerson sat down to tell the Beacon a little about themselves and their sport.

Can you introduce yourself?

Moore: My name is Baylor Moore, I’m 14 years old and I’m an 8th grader at Cordell Junior High.

Dickerson: My name is Preslie. I’m 6 years old, I’m in kindergarten and I’m a blue devil wrestler.

Why wrestling? What got you into it?

Moore: I love wrestling because I like how it’s an intense and challenging sport mentally and physically. I also like it because you have to work hard and put in the extra time and work if you want to see yourself succeed. What got me into wrestling was the fact that 11-year-old me was lazy and my dad thought it would be good for me to try going to some wrestling practices. At first I hated it, but after going to some tournaments and not placing very well I made it my goal to win 1st. After a year and a half of hard work it finally payed off.

Dickerson: My bubba and my daddy. My bubba is really good at wrestling and he’s why I started and my daddy coaches me.

What are you most looking forward to about Reno?

Moore: One thing I’m really looking forward to about Reno is seeing new competition.

Dickerson: Winning! And going on the airplane!

What is your favorite thing about being a female wrestler?

Moore: My favorite thing about being a female wrestler is proving people, who doubt us female wrestlers, wrong and showing them that we are just as good as the boys, if not better.

Dickerson: That I beat up all the boys and my bubba.

Describe how you felt when you found out you were going to Reno?

Moore: We had always talked about that if I won State again we would go to Reno. During my championship match I was so nervous because everything depended on that match, but when I won it I was so excited. When I got off the mat Preslie came jumping into my arms crying because we both get to go to Reno.

Dickerson: Mad! My dad said State was the last tournament!

Who will be there supporting and encouraging you?

Moore: Even though I don’t have many people coming with me to support me, I have a lot of people back home who are. I would like to thank everyone for helping me get to where I am now and supporting me throughout my wrestling career.

Dickerson: My Dadda, Momma, Memaw and my friend Stella and her family.

Lastly, what do you hope to gain from this experience?

Moore: I hope to gain some knowledge of what it’s gonna be like there and what competition I’m going to have so I can know for next year.

Dickerson: I want to get stronger and I hope it makes me more excited to win again and get to go back next year!

The first match of weekend will be on Friday, March 31, at the Reno Livestock Events Center.
