This past Friday marked the halfway point of this 2022 football season, and it was Homecoming for the Blue Devils. We had a fun week with float building and taking part in the parade and Pep Rally. Cheer Sponsor Alisa Boecker always makes the Pep Rally exciting and makes sure everyone has a good time and most of all, helps get our team pumped up! The coronation ceremony took place before kickoff and congratulations to Junior Carli Banks for being crowned homecoming queen. The Sophomore class took the honor of having the best float in the parade this year. Now to the game.
Our guys are continuing to show improvement from week to week. Our defense held Carnegie to the lowest point total of the season. Freshman Eathan Fenning forced a turnover and Freshman Joe Wilson had the recovery. We are a young group of kids, many who are playing football for the first time since elementary school, some are even playing for the first time ever. They show a lot of heart and are working their tails off to be better every week.
Junior Quarterback Danny Corbin made the start under center after being sidelined from the Empire game. He was still battling an ankle sprain but was able to come in and manage the offense for us. He completed five passes for 87 yards on the night. Senior JD Maddox made progress this week and started the game for us but was pulled for precautionary reasons after halftime. Before he went out, he had two catches for 50 yards. Sophomore Dayton Bartlett lead the way on the ground with seven rushes for 58 yards. Senior Aiden Middendorff made his season debut and was able to get several carries for positive yardage. Juniors Jordan Wood and Gage Miller were also able to gain some yards receiving. We suffered a couple more injuries before the final horn, but for the most part, we were able to come out of the game unscathed.
This Friday night we will be traveling down to take on the Apache Warriors. Apache is a good team. They run multiple formations and we have spent the first part of the week making adjustments to try and line up to what they are throwing at us. We have been working on our offensive game plan to attack their defense. If you can’t make the drive to Apache with us, be sure to watch us on Youtube on Blue Devil TV. Kick off is at 7:00. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support, and GO BIG BLUE! B.I.T.S
